At Floor Coverings International of Frisco/McKinney, we love bringing you creative insight and perspectives from bloggers who are kind enough to share their wisdom and how they got started. Today we have an interview with Nancy, interior designer and longtime blogger at Artsy Chicks Rule.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a thrifty girl who loves painting and creating. I’m also an avid DIY’er. I can do it, and so can you! I love to decorate on a budget and teach others how to do the same. Combine that with a bit of DIY and you have beauty on a budget.

Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?

I wanted to share my love of design and decor (and recreating things). I love to paint, create and do things myself (DIY) and wanted to show others how anyone can do these things. I also wanted to show others how to decorate using what you love instead of feeling pressured to follow so many of the “decorating rules”. I think many feel intimidated at the thought of decorating their own spaces and it shouldn’t be that way. Blogging creates a unique platform in which I can share AND interact with readers. I enjoy that part of it immensely.

How would you describe your design style?

My design style is not easily summed up in one or two words. I like so many things and try to incorporate them all, if possible. It’s a bit of a mouthful… French Country Vintage Coastal Cottage with a bit of whimsy thrown in.

Where do you find most of your inspiration?

I love to flip through magazines, gaze at beautiful rooms online and actually from my very own cherished things. I’m always walking around my home envisioning things moved about.
There is never an end to what can be done with the things you already own. Add one new piece (or DIY’d design element), rearrange the rest (furniture, decor pieces, etc) and you have an entirely new space!

Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.

One of the most fun (and most unique) projects I’ve done to date is creating a missing handle for a thrifted dresser. I didn’t want to purchase an entire set of hardware so I made one to match the rest! I used clay and wire along with paint. No one would ever know just by looking at it. That was thinking way outside of the box and I think has inspired many to do the same.
