One of the top reasons for buying a home is to be able to design and decorate the space according to your needs. So, the ability to choose the type of flooring you have seems like a blessing — initially. Rather than toss your hands up in the air at all the options, let Floor Coverings International® of show you tile! Tile’s many options are wonderful for Texas’ ever-changing weather, and very easy to care for.

More Than One Type of Tile

One consultation with our design specialists will tell you that there are a lot of tile types available. Many can be used both indoors and outdoors, though some are better suited for one location than the other. For example, terra cotta tile with grout is great outside or in a foyer, but it’s not the best in places like a kitchen or playroom, where you need smoother tiles with no space in between, for easier cleaning. Linoleum is a classic kitchen tile, but it looks odd outside on a deck.

Don’t be nervous about choosing more than one type of tile. You don’t want to choose too many different types as that will make your house decor look jumbled. But two or three main types can help delineate space in open-plan homes (such as between the foyer and the living room).

Good for Texas Weather

Tile has a major advantage over carpet and even hardwood and laminate floors: It’s much easier to dry off without damaging the tiles. When you walk in during a huge rainstorm, you track in water and dirt. Carpets will stain, and wood and laminate may deteriorate more quickly when exposed to water month after month. Tile, though, lets you wipe up that water and dirt easily. Tile can end up with scuffs, but even those will clean off with an appropriate cleaner. Tile is also more resistant to mildew and mold, especially if you seal grout and clay-style tiles.
